Experiencing the Lord’s Prayer said in different languages is both disconcerting and inspiring at the same time. It is disconcerting in that you can hear what appears to be babble while still being aware that everyone is actually praying the same prayer. It is inspiring in that it is a clear reminder that no one language has a monopoly on a particular piece of scripture and prayer.

The Day of Pentecost has a number of threads of meaning. It reinforces the promise of Jesus to not abandon us when he finally left his followers. It reinforces the nature of faith as being accessible to all and not to be the private property of any one group. And it also makes a very strong point about the need for us to be as inclusive as possible and to build the bridges of reconciliation across cultures. Read Acts 2: 1-21
